We're looking for an experienced, visionary Water Quality Leader to join our divisional leadership team within water supply. In this pivotal role, you'll safeguard public health and customer trust by ensuring the highest standards of drinking water quality. You'll drive compliance, lead investigations, and champion innovation across a diverse operational landscape.
What you'll do
In this role you will:
- set the standard for water quality compliance, ensuring regulatory requirements are consistently met and exceeded
- lead incident management, conducting root cause analysis and embedding lessons learned to prevent recurrence
- provide expert technical guidance on water quality issues, including chemical handling, COSHH, and regulatory developments
- monitor and interpret performance data, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement
- own and maintain Drinking Water Safety Plans (DWSPs), ensuring risk assessments and mitigation measures remain robust and up to date
- drive audit excellence, leading site audits and implementing targeted improvements
- optimise operational processes, balancing efficiency with uncompromising water quality standards
- lead and develop a high-performing team of up to 10 water quality scientists and technical specialists
- design and deliver technical training, ensuring operational teams are equipped with the latest knowledge and best practices
- shape strategic plans and play a key role in incident response across the division.
What you'll need
The successful candidate will have:
- a degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, microbiology, water/environmental sciences, or a related field
- deep knowledge of drinking water regulations, DWSPs, COSHH, and operational best practice
- proven experience leading water quality performance in an operational or treatment environment
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of managing compliance risk and embedding corrective actions
- exceptional communication skills, able to translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable guidance
- experience managing and developing technical teams
- the ability to build strong relationships with regulators, internal teams, and external stakeholders
- a continuous improvement mindset, with experience optimising resources while maintaining compliance.
