We are looking for passionate students to join our Economic Regulation team for a four-week summer placement between July and August.
We have two placements available. Specific start dates will be agreed with successful candidates in due course.
What you'll do
The Economic Regulation team plays a crucial role within Wessex Water. Working across the business, we hold a range of day-to-day responsibilities including:
- setting the charges that our customers pay for our water and wastewater services
- monitoring our operational and financial performance to ensure that we are delivering a high-quality service to our customers while remaining financially resilient
- feeding into our medium and long-term business planning
- reviewing, understanding and responding to industry consultations.
As part of this placement, you'll gain exposure to all aspects of our work. This could include thinking about innovative new ways of charging, forecasting future trends in water consumption, and analysing data to summarise how water companies are performing relative to each other.
The work will be varied, though it is likely to have a strong quantitative focus, and we welcome candidates who have a particular passion for this kind of analysis.
Throughout the placement, you'll be working closely with colleagues to see first-hand how economics principles inform the work we do, and how economic regulation is put into practice in the water sector
What you'll need
You will have a degree in, or be working towards a degree in, a numerate discipline.
For those working towards a degree, applicants from all years (i.e. whether in first, second or final years) are encouraged.
Additionally, experience using Microsoft Excel is desirable, though not required.
