Do you have an interest in agriculture, water and the environment? Do you enjoy working with farmers and other catchment stakeholders to promote sustainable land management practices? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you to join our team as a Farm Environment Adviser.

What you'll do

As part of a team of Catchment Advisers and Scientists, you will identify risks to water quality.

By working with farmers in groundwater and surface water catchments, you will help to reduce these risks and the need for treatment for contaminants at our sources, also improving the ecological status of local watercourses.

You will engage with farmers and share water quality, soil and crop data to inform their land management decisions and encourage them to make more efficient use of nutrients and pesticides.

You will provide advice on the implementation of diffuse pollution mitigation measures and signpost them towards the most appropriate source of funding, including our own grant schemes.

What you'll need

You will be:

  • able to work independently and as part of a team
  • able to work effectively in the field and in an office environment
  • an excellent communicator
  • confident talking to and dealing with the farming community
  • able to demonstrate experience of working as a Farm, Environment or Catchment Adviser or Agronomist, although applications from graduates are also welcome
  • motivated and enthusiastic about sustainable land management.

In addition, you will have:

  • a relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in agriculture, environmental science or a related discipline
  • a FACTS qualification, or the ability to achieve this within two years of appointment
  • knowledge of sustainable farming practices, especially soil/nutrient/manure management and nature-based solutions
  • knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory processes in agriculture and the water industry
  • knowledge of agri-environment stewardship schemes
  • good IT skills
  • strong communication skills, including the ability to write technical notes, newsletters, social media, website content and detailed reports
  • effective time management skills
  • some knowledge of or experience using nutrient accounting tools and delivering projects
  • a valid UK driving licence.

What you'll receive
