In-house Solicitor

We have an exciting opening for an In-house Real Estate Solicitor to join our ambitious legal team providing YTL UK Group with expert legal advice and guidance.  

YTL UK Group comprises a range of companies working in the water and sewerage, engineering and construction, property development, waste management and renewable energy sectors. 

The group includes Wessex Water, one of the top-performing water and sewerage companies in the UK, serving 2.9 million customers across the South West of England, and a company with a wide requirement for land acquisition, use and management. 

One of the biggest projects in the wider YTL portfolio is the development of Filton Airfield in Bristol. This involves the creation of a new neighbourhood from scratch, with a range of residential and commercial properties, as well as the construction of the YTL Arena in the old Brabazon Hangars. 

Our collaborative and professional team of In-house Solicitors cover all legal matters, including water industry and regulatory issues, commercial arrangements, data protection issues and property-related matters.  

What you'll do 

In this role, you will be reporting to the Group Legal Services Director and working with other lawyers in the team.

You will be responsible for providing legal advice and support across the YTL UK Group in relation to its property portfolio and land acquisition and use needs.  

Day to day, you will be advising on a variety of property-related transactions and matters and will possess the ability to work with a range of internal clients and business support teams, including those concerned with the property holdings of the regulated business as well as those working with varied commercial sites across a sizeable mixed-use development.   

Our professional team is very busy, and we pride ourselves on being able to work to challenging timescales and balance conflicting priorities while still being friendly, supportive and approachable.  

You will be dealing with a wide range of enquiries, from transactional processes and land access requests to matters relating to the statutory underpinning of the water and sewerage sector.

You will also be providing strategic advice on the management of a major commercial, residential and entertainment site.  For example, land acquisition both freehold and leasehold, option agreements, conditional contracts, residential and commercial land development, pipeline easements and wayleaves, and compound licences.    

What you'll need 

We are looking for: 

• a qualified solicitor with at least two years of post-qualification experience in real estate law, focussing on all aspects of commercial property matters
• experience in the water sector (or other utility/regulatory sector) - this is desirable, though not essential
• good problem-solving skills, adaptability, initiative and the ability to be proactive. 

As you will support a wide range of internal clients, including senior management, we will expect you to demonstrate confident, effective communication and influencing skills and the ability to quickly develop positive working relationships within the business. 

Your methodical and organised approach will enable you to be flexible when needed and respond positively to the inevitable challenges that arise.

We will expect you to work independently but recognise when to seek guidance and when to escalate matters.
