We have an exciting new opportunity for you to join YTL Construction UK and work on one of the largest and most exciting private regeneration projects in the UK, as a MEP Design & Engineering Lead.
We are currently transforming the historic former Filton Airfield – the birthplace of Concorde and supersonic travel – into a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol, known as Brabazon.
What you'll do
You will lead, manage, and review the engineering, technical design, and coordination aspects of Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) systems from RIBA 0 to RIBA 4.
You will be instrumental in establishing technical design standards, managing internal and external design resources, and ensuring MEP systems are cost-effective, sustainable, compliant, and aligned with project goals and client expectations.
You will review and validate external MEP consultant designs to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE Standards, BSRIA guidelines and integration with architectural and structural frameworks.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- assisting in establishing the in-house MEP Engineering & Design team including mechanical, electrical, public health and BIM
- assisting in developing internal procedures, standards, and workflows aligned to industry best practices (CIBSE, BSRIA, and UK Building Regulations)
- acting as a strategic MEP advisor to senior leadership on all matters related to MEP systems performance, design feasibility, energy strategy, and compliance
- leading the entire end-to-end MEP design process from RIBA Stage 0 (strategic definition) to Stage 4 (handover), and assists in RIBA Stage 5 until handover for any MEP inquiries on technical matters
- reviewing and validating MEP consultant designs to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE Standards, BSRIA guidelines and integration with architectural and structural frameworks
- serving as the principal reviewer of all MEP engineering design and output (calculations, specifications, models, drawings, and schedules) from external MEP consultants
- collaborating and assisting in procurement strategies for MEP packages that align with project scope, complexity, and market conditions
- serving as the main point of contact for all MEP matters, fostering strong and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
What you'll need
As an experienced MEP Design Lead, you will have the experience and ability to deliver high-value MEP design and technical leadership on MEP packages of over £5million, on projects valued above £20m.
You will have a strong working knowledge of MEP system design and installation, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, power distribution, lighting, ICT, and life safety systems.
You will have a strong grasp of UK regulations, codes, and guidance. Examples include, CIBSE guides, British Standards, IET Wiring Regulations (BS7671), Part L/F/B/G and TM52/TM59.
You will be proficient in the use of BIM, with knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
Your core qualities will include leadership, communication skills, detail oriented, quality driven, with a commitment towards high technical standards and compliance.
You will be degree qualified in mechanical or electrical engineering, with extensive experience in MEP design and technical management. You will also hold chartered status with a recognised UK institution such as CIBSE or IMechE.
A relevant CSCS manager's card will be required, along with SMSTS or an equivalent health & safety qualification.
