About the apprenticeship

Due to our continued growth delivering the exciting Brabazon Project at the old Filton Airfield development, we are looking to recruit a highly motivated, skilled and detail-oriented individual to join the commercial team within the major projects part of the business, initially, to be part of the purpose-built 1,514-bed student accommodation project team.

This will involve working alongside our internal delivery teams by attending on site, carrying out valuations and participating in progress reviews, as well as meetings related to payments, variations and any claims. During your apprenticeship, you will support our Operational and Construction teams in all aspects of pre and post contract duties. 

The degree apprenticeship is dovetailed with the professional institution chartership process. You will also work towards your RICS APC, which means you'll be a recognised Chartered Surveyor when you complete your apprenticeship.

What you'll do

As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice, you will be working in an energetic environment dealing with a range of varied projects. 

You will be developing the relevant legal, commercial, management and technology skills needed to: 

  • aid and support to quantity surveyors and more senior commercial staff within the team, ultimately working towards your own responsibility for commercial project delivery 
  • assist with estimating, procurement and tendering, contract management, including payments and financial reporting, to effectively control construction costs 
  • work with the JCT suite of contracts for design and construction works 
  • work to financial targets and deadlines, interpret project programmes, understand risk and react to the demands of construction delivery to ensure best value 
  • develop skills in data management, primarily with Microsoft Excel, SharePoint and other software systems to ensure compliance with corporate systems, standards and procedures 
  • interface with other project delivery staff including Project Managers, Designers, Engineers, Estimators and Site Managers.

This vacancy will include a suitability questionnaire, which our teams will shortlist from along with an assessment centre where you will be assessed with other candidates with an activity and speed interview. This will be in Bristol and details will follow shortly after the closing date.

Where you'll work

This role is based at Filton Airfield in Bristol where you will be part of an energetic and busy team operating on a regular shift pattern during the working week.

What you'll need

You will need:

  • GCSEs A-C/4+ in English and maths
  • two A levels or a Higher National Certificate (HNC)
  • excellent communication skills
  • the ability to build working relationships quickly at all levels
  • good computer literacy.

Apprenticeship Course Information

Duration

Five years plus end point assessment. 

Qualifications

  • Chartered Surveyor QS Degree Apprenticeship Level 6. 
  • BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management. 
  • Accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Training provision 

Training will be delivered by University of West of England – Bristol.
