Do you have a passion for keeping people safe? Do you take pride in creating memorable visitor experiences? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you in our Recreation and Fisheries team as a Recreation Safety Officer!
What you'll do
As Recreation Safety Officer, you will ensure that our recreation sites offer safe, enjoyable experiences for visitors. This will include owning our recreation health and safety processes and documentation, supporting our Rangers to ensure infrastructure is well-maintained and contributing to future site development plans from a health and safety perspective.
Alongside this, you will act as our subject matter expert on recreation safety, providing advice to other teams as required.
Activities will include:
- supporting the management and delivery of visitor safety across our recreation and fishery sites
- providing advice relating to our health and safety policies and industry best-practice, serving as a subject matter expert for public access areas
- ensuring routine checks/inspections/maintenance are undertaken and recorded, and owning the risk assessments/SSOW in place for our activities
- addressing any visitor safety issues identified through inspections and health and safety audits
- procuring tools, assets, equipment and/or contractors, as well as facilities management where required to support visitor safety
- working closely with the Recreation and Fisheries Manager and Principal Conservation Advisers to support the development and implementation of new visitor safety initiatives, including accessible design standards and site-specific development plans.
What you'll need
To be successful, you will be highly motivated, able to work independently and be confident with applying health and safety principles in a visitor setting.
You will be expected to travel to all of our recreation sites regularly, so you will require a full UK driving licence.
Required experience:
- a demonstrable experience in a health and safety role relating to visitor management, recreation management or countryside management
- practical experience implementing health and safety measures would be ideal
- a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a similar qualification
- a positive and constructive approach to working with others and motivating those you do not line manage
- a solid understanding of health and safety requirements and management, focusing on the provision of recreational services to the public
- problem-solving skills and the ability to work from own initiative to achieve agreed goals within a dynamic environment
- the ability to maintain accurate administration and record keeping, including the use of EHS and basic asset management systems
- effective customer service, B2B and communication skills (written and verbal)
- the ability to build positive, lasting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
