Are you a self-motivated individual who is looking to join a new team installing smart meters in an award-winning organisation? If so, we have a great opportunity for you as a Smart Meter Technician.

What you'll do

As a Smart Meter Technician, you will mainly be responsible for carrying out external smart meter installations and replacements in a fast-paced, target-driven role.

Your day will be scheduled via an electronic diary, and you'll be liaising with customers, installing the smart meter, connecting them to the network and closing out the installation by returning the meter asset information back into corporate systems using Dynamics field services.

You'll also be carrying out triage on smart meters to identify connectivity issues, and be expected to investigate supply connections to locate a point to install smart meters and identify the property it feeds.

You will fit each meter to a high standard to ensure it's done right first time to give the customer the best experience possible and ensure we don't have repeat visits. All data will be inputted correctly when closing the work orders to ensure detailed information is returned.

A lot of your day-to-day duties will involve working alone; therefore, it is essential that you follow lone worker processes to always ensure safe working. However, you will have the support of the team and Smart Meter Technician Supervisor on hand if needed.

We are a safety-first employer, so you will be expected to follow all our health and safety policies, procedures and best practices. This includes ensuring all available safety measures have been exercised prior to starting any survey for each incident type.

This role will require you to be part of a 24/7 standby rota for attending customer emergencies related to smart metering.

You will travel across the region. The first target area being Salisbury and surrounding areas. A vehicle will be provided for your travel.

Please note that the normal working hours will be 45 hours per week.

What you'll need

We are looking for a confident, self-motivated and outgoing individual who is a team player and has good people skills. You will need to have excellent customer service.

In addition, you will:

  • have the ability and confidence to deliver great customer service
  • have experience in water supply metering, covering household and non-household activities (not essential as training will be provided)
  • have experience working to tight deadlines with a focus on delivering targets
  • have experience working on multiple systems with a ‘can do' approach to learning new work management tools.
  • be well-organised and have a self-sufficient work ethic
  • be effective in working as part of a team or using your own initiative
  • have the ability to work under pressure and resolve issues by good decision making
  • have computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel for data entry
  • have a full driving licence
  • have a street works card (preferred but not essential)
  • have a water smart passport/hygiene card (training will be provided)
  • be experienced in manual handling (training can be provided).

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
