Are you looking for an exciting opportunity where you can utilise your technical knowledge on water quality and help ensure our drinking water is clean, safe and sufficient? If so, then the Compliance team have a unique opening for a Water Quality Regulatory Adviser to join them!  

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.

What you'll do

Working in a small yet dynamic team, you will work collaboratively to help protect public health and our compliance with legislation. As advocates of public health, we are passionate and dedicated to the service we provide to the drinking water teams in Wessex Water.

As a senior member of the team, you will have a varied and busy role dealing with all aspects of drinking water supply, providing technical advice to the business about drinking water risk and regulations, to ensure public health and drinking water quality are protected at all times. Working with external organisations such as the Drinking Water Inspectorate, Public Health England and Local Authorities, you will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

As a Regulatory Advisor, you will oversee programmes of work and take the lead on investigating and reporting drinking water quality events. You will be required to take part in drinking water safety planning reviews and other on-site inspections across our water supply region. This is a wide-ranging and challenging role for somebody who is already involved with drinking water quality and wants to use their skills in a public health and compliance-focused environment.   

What you'll need

You will need to:

  • be an expert in your field, with experience operating within a science-based role within the water industry
  • have a good technical understanding of the drinking water supply
  • be degree-level qualified within a science subject and ideally, be a chartered member of a professional organisation within a scientific field
  • be confident with reporting and being able to translate data into business-friendly reports
  • have an awareness of public health, drinking water supply
  • have an awareness of European Legislation and World Health Organisation guidance is highly beneficial
  • have advanced knowledge on MS Excel and be able to confidently use V-Lookups, pivot tables and data analysis tools
  • have experience using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) together with GIS software would be highly beneficial
  • have exceptional interpersonal and influencing ability when liaising with external stakeholders, as well as senior management around the wider business
  • be able to deliver presentations to a large audience, as well as carry out training and development for all things drinking water, including the regulatory requirements
  • hold a valid full UK driving licence.
