About the construction team

Our in-house construction team is made up of operatives and site managers who build and maintain our assets.

This role is one of our more physical apprenticeships. Each day you’ll be outside labouring and getting your hands dirty on one of our large scale construction projects.

One day you could be doing excavation works or kerbing; the next day you might be being briefed on the next big project or making an inspection chamber.

Training for this post will be across all aspects of our practical construction business to ensure you become a multi-skilled, knowledgeable construction operative.

What will you be doing?

You will be:

  • carrying out excavation works, general concrete works
  • doing plant operation, slinger/banker duties
  • pipelaying (drainage and water mains)
  • carrying out enabling works (roads, kerbing, paving).

Where will you work?

This role is regional so you will be expected to work anywhere within the Wessex Water region from Bristol to Bournemouth and Salisbury to Taunton.

  • have excellent all-round communication skills
  • be able to travel around the region
  • have the ability to problem solve, use initiative, multitask and work under pressure.

  • Groundworks Apprenticeship issued by CITB
  • SHEA Health and Safety Card
  • Technical training such as manual handling, working at heights and other core courses around health and safety

Training provision

Bridgwater & Taunton College:

  • Groundworks Apprenticeship issued by CITB
  • Block release – two weeks every two months
  • Residential
  • Classroom and practical
  • On site assessor visits
